The recognised current gold price quoted daily around the world is the London Fix. Many investors also monitor the fluctuating gold spot prices from the (OTC) market places such as the New York Commodities Exchange (Comex).

The London afternoon gold price fixing is used as a reference gold price around the world. There is also a morning fixing, but as the afternoon fixing takes place when both the US market and the European, Middle Eastern and African markets are still trading, it tends to be the most liquid period during the day. Comex Gold Spot Price
The spot price for gold is determined by market forces in the 24-hour global over-the-counter (OTC) market for gold. The
OTC market accounts for most global gold trading, and prices quoted reflect the information available to the market at
any given time.

A popular reference amongst gold investors is the latest Comex gold spot price. This is a constantly changing price from the New York markets, and trading goes on until about 2:30 P.M. Eastern time.
